Late equaliser denies Australia win

Perth: A stoppage time goal meant Australia had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Slovenia in an international women's friendly on Sunday.

Having defeated the European side 3-0 on Thursday, Australia looked on course for a second successive win but Slovenia refused to give up and were rewarded with the equaliser in the first minute of stoppage time.

Despite dominating the tie, Australia had to be satisfied with a goalless first half but took a well deserved lead five minutes into the restart.

Remy Seimsen played the ball to Ellie Carpenter who cut it back for Michelle Heyman, who placed a side-footed volley into the net.

Charli Grant had her effort cleared off the line in the 70th minute, with Slovenia subsequently raising their tempo.

That led to Mirjam Kastelec striking the equaliser just as the match went into time added on.

The Matildas, preparing for the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026™, will next face Panama in a double header on July 5 and 8.
